ABJM MISSION

“Our mission is to seek the eradication of race and class bias from all aspects of the judicial process, to promote the continuing judicial education of its members, to improve public confidence in our courts, and to advocate for the appointment of Judges of color to all courts throughout the state.”

ABJM History

The history of black judges in Michigan arises from an occasion in 1890 when justice was being swept aside throughout the nation and in the state of Michigan by the swirling crosswinds of the doctrine of “separate but equal”

ABJM Membership

Membership in the Association of Black Judges of Michigan is open only to members of the Michigan Bar who are present or past holders of an elected or appointed judicial or quasi-judicial position.

ABJM Leadership

“As judges we must remain humble and we must be ever mindful: “to hear the small as well as the great, and be not afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s”-Deuteronomy chapter 1: verses 16, and 17.

From The President of ABJM...

Since our organizations inception in 1979, we have been fortunate to continue to gain strength. The Association of Black Judges of Michigan serves not only our membership but the greater issues of social justice that face this great state. We are fortunate that we have had dynamic leaders and a membership that continues to strive to achieve excellence and performance of our duties and service to our community.

Our membership is comprised of over 100 African American Judges in the State of Michigan.
